Worker turnout ‘illustrates commitment’ of foreign staff

The inclement weather which has swept the UK has led to thousands of people taking the day off, mainly citing an inability to make it to their place of work.

However, the validity of some of these workers’ excuses may not be as cast iron as they seem, as has been illustrated by Chris Slay, who heads the European Recruitment Agency.

He spoke of how 80 of his direct workers are from Poland and Slovakia and all bar two made it into work yesterday (January 6th) to perform their duties for a client.

Mr Slay contrasts this with the client’s British employees, only 40 per cent of whom made it through, adding that the two foreign workers who did not make it to work were let down by British drivers who normally give them a lift.

The expert summarised the situation with four words: “Need I say more?”

His comments come after Bob Cotton, chief executive of the British Hospitality Association, recently said that Eastern European workers often display a greater willingness to work than their British counterparts.
