The government has announced that it will be creating a new body to ensure companies hiring workers are paying their staff the minimum wage.
HM Revenue and Customs has announced that it will be creating a dynamic response team to take on the cases against these employers, which is funded by a levy on migrant workers.
Pat McFadden, business minister, claims that the government is doing more than ever to ensure that all workers are receiving their minimum entitlement.
He states: “Evasion hurts both workers and responsible employers who play by the rules, so we are stepping up our fight against non-payment of the minimum wage.”
John Denham, communities secretary, says that these measures will help make people more welcoming of migrant workers by stopping the practice of illegally undercutting the wages of local people.
Earlier this month, the Employment Agency Standards report highlighted the importance of choosing European recruitment agencies based on the level of regulatory compliance they maintain.
