Those seeking Engineering positions could be given a boost by May Gurney, which has won a place on two utilities frameworks.

The company has won contracts with South West Water and Anglian Water to the tune of £43 million.

These will run for around three years, and will see the firm manage activities associated with asset upgrade, maintenance and enhancement of water treatment and waste water treatment facilities.

The move has made May Gurney the sole supplier for development services for South West Water; a lucrative contract that could really provide a boost to civil engineering recruitment in the UK. All of the contracts that fall between 2010 and 2015 will be managed by May Gurney’s AMP5 contract – AMP5 being the water industry’s five-year cycle.

May Gurney, along with many other Engineering Companies, may have to turn to Eastern Europe to find the skills required as there is intense international competition for talent particularly from Australia and Norway who have very large cheque books.
