Career History:

2010 – Present: Lead Fire Training Officer for North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.

NATO consultant Chief Training Officer at the ISAF Joint HQ and Kabul International Airport working closely with Governmental agencies, including the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s (GIRoA) Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation. Chief instructor responsible for the development of 160 fire service personnel and transition from the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to GIRoA by July 2014

• As the Lead Training Officer, I am responsible to ensure that resources are immediately available at three stations and that the fire crews of 160 local civilian hire and 25 internationals are fully trained, equipped and operational ready to respond to any incident and create an effective intervention.

• Controlled and maintain effective response of watches as provided for by company standards, in maintaining the level of media and personnel stipulated by the NATO STANAGS and ICAO aerodrome licensing standards.
• Develop the Maintenance of Competence Scheme (MOCS) Training Program; Auditing and reviewing the MOCS program to review the assessment process of the program, develop and supply course materials for recruitment, Fire Fighter, Crew Manager, Watch Manager courses planned and develop Fire Training Facilities to the highest possible standard to ensure that all levels of training are met.
• Production and implementation of local Fire Service Procedures, Policy Documents, Risk Assessments, Safety Instructions, Standard Operational Procedures, and Presentations.
• Assume command at Tactical or Operational level at Incidents, Aircraft, Structural, Bulk Fuel, Road Traffic, Improvised Explosive Device attack, Rocket attack.
• Developed and run SMS program for Health, Safety and Welfare of Station personnel.
• Assesses preventative fire protection measures and fire protection regulations and self-protection plans for a large military base.
• Ensure that all training records are current and accurate; liase with NATO, ICAO, FAA, and Afghan Civil Aviation Authority auditors on inspections.

1987 – 2010: Station Manager / Deputy Training Manager.

Maintained operational readiness and undertook operational incident duties as required, in accordance with the flexible duty system. Managed multi appliance operational incidents, as the incident commander, through the assessment of incident status, risk assessment and then implemented the appropriate action using the Incident Command System.

1984 – 1987: Retained (Volunteer) fire-fighter South Wales Fire Service.

Responded to emergency calls and requests in assistance for emergency incidents including fires; road accidents; floods; bomb incidents; spillages of dangerous Substances; rescued trapped people and animals. Administered trauma support and medical assistance to reduce distress and suffering up, including the use of a defibrillator. Complied with all safe systems of work and ensured that all tasked carried out were pre assessed via a dynamic risk assessment.
